Karnataka State FIP was honoured to collaborate with the Department of Fish Processing Technology, College of Fisheries, Mangaluru

Small Pelagic Purse Seine Fisheries – Karnataka State FIP was honoured to collaborate with the Department of Fish Processing Technology, College of Fisheries, Mangaluru, and the Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation (KFDC), Mangaluru, in jointly organising World Food Day 2025 and the One-Day Technical Workshop on “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future: Sustainable Valorisation of Fish and Fishery Products for Nutrition and Food Security.” Held on 16 October 2025 at the College of Fisheries, Yekkur, the event brought together experts, innovators, entrepreneurs, and students to collectively reflect on sustainable food systems and the crucial role of fisheries in global nutrition and food security. For our FIP team, it was a meaningful opportunity to contribute toward enhancing awareness of sustainable fish utilisation and value addition practices within Karnataka’s fisheries sector.

The workshop featured distinguished guests whose expertise enriched the discussions on food, nutrition, and sustainability. The programme was inaugurated by Mrs. Sanjana M. Shenoy, Senior Dietitian, Mangaluru, while the technical insights were further strengthened by chief guests such as Mrs. Komal Prabhu, an entrepreneur in the food sector, and Dr. Arun M. Isloor, Professor and former Head of the Department of Chemistry, NITK Surathkal. Their sessions emphasised the importance of scientific innovation, responsible processing, and consumer-centric product development. As representatives of Small Pelagic Purse Seine Fisheries – Karnataka State FIP, we were pleased to see the discussions highlighting the untapped potential of small pelagic species in value-added product development, nutrition enhancement, and food security—areas that resonate strongly with our sustainability goals.

For our organisation, this programme served as a platform to further advocate for the efficient and responsible utilisation of pelagic resources through technology adoption, capacity building, and improved market linkages. The presence of notable guests of honour, including Sri Ganesh K., MD, KFDC, and Dr. Anirban Chakraborty, Director, NUCESR, NITTE, underscored the growing interest among policymakers and institutions in advancing sustainable fisheries. Through our continued collaboration with academic bodies like the College of Fisheries, we remain committed to supporting value-chain strengthening, enhancing fisher livelihoods, and promoting science-based innovations that contribute to a healthier and more resilient food future. The successful observance of World Food Day 2025 stands as a testament to our shared mission of working hand in hand for better food and a better tomorrow.
