On 03 March 2025, the Small Pelagic Purse Seine Fisheries – Karnataka State Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) achieved another important milestone by becoming a corporate member of Sea=MC², the Arabian Sea Fisheries Management Coordination Committee. This membership reflects the project’s growing commitment to collaborative fisheries governance and its active role in contributing to regional sustainability initiatives across the Arabian Sea ecosystem.
Through this partnership, the Karnataka State FIP will now engage with a broader network of stakeholders, including research institutions, government agencies, industry representatives, and conservation groups working together to strengthen fisheries management. Membership in Sea=MC² enables the FIP to participate in coordinated efforts such as shared data initiatives, stock assessments, ecosystem monitoring, and the development of harmonized management strategies for key fisheries operating along the Arabian Sea coast.
Joining Sea=MC² marks a significant step forward in advancing responsible fishing practices and regional cooperation. By aligning with a body dedicated to improving fisheries governance, the Karnataka State FIP enhances its ability to influence policy, promote science-based decision-making, and support long-term ecological and economic sustainability for small pelagic fisheries in Karnataka and beyond.
