Karnataka State FIP Holds 3rd Stakeholders’ Meeting to Strengthen Collaboration and Sustainability

On 21 June 2024, the Karnataka State Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) conducted its 3rd Stakeholders’ Meeting at Hotel AJ Grand Elite, Mangalore. The meeting focused on engaging additional stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and expand the project’s outreach. New participants included Avnti Feeds Limited and Sandhya Marines, prominent feed manufacturers, along with representatives from all the small pelagic purse seine associations along the Karnataka coast.

Dr. Nicola Clark, Impact Manager at MarinTrust, addressed the participants, providing a detailed overview of MarinTrust’s role and the objectives of the FIP. Her session emphasized the importance of responsible sourcing, sustainability standards, and industry-wide cooperation in improving the fisheries’ practices. The presence of key experts and officials reinforced the meeting’s focus on collective action and informed decision-making.

The event was attended by distinguished leaders, including Dr. Sujitha Thomas, Principal Scientist and Head of CMFRI Mangalore Regional Centre; Mr. Siddaiha, Joint Director of Fisheries, Mangalore; Mr. Vivek, Joint Director of Fisheries, Malpe; Dr. H. N. Anjaneyappa, Dean of the College of Fisheries, Mangalore; and Mr. Udaya Kumar Salian, Lead of the Small Pelagic Purse Seine Fisheries Karnataka State FIP. Their participation facilitated open dialogue, strengthened stakeholder engagement, and set a clear path for implementing actionable strategies toward sustainability and continuous improvement across Karnataka’s small pelagic fisheries.
