Karnataka FIP Strengthens Regional Collaboration with Goa and Maharashtra FIPs

On 02 April 2024, the Small Pelagic Purse Seine Fishery – Karnataka State Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) delegation met with representatives from the Goa and Maharashtra FIPs to strengthen regional collaboration. The meeting created a valuable platform for exchanging knowledge, aligning objectives, and exploring opportunities that benefit all three coastal states involved in small pelagic fisheries.

During the discussions, the teams identified several areas where joint efforts could enhance the effectiveness of their respective FIPs. These included coordinated scientific research, unified approaches to sustainability challenges, and shared strategies for engaging fishermen, industry partners, and coastal communities. By combining resources and expertise, the states aim to improve data accuracy, streamline management practices, and address common ecological concerns.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of collective policy advocacy to ensure long-term sustainability and compliance with global seafood supply chain standards. Strengthened regional cooperation will help build a more resilient and responsible fishery sector, positioning Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra as leaders in sustainable small pelagic fishery management.
