On 20 June 2024, members of the Karnataka State Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) met with Dr. Nicola Clark, Impact Manager at MarinTrust, and Shri Dinesh Kumar Kaller, Director of the Department of Fisheries, Government of Karnataka, at his office. The meeting provided an important opportunity to strengthen collaboration between the FIP team, government authorities, and international sustainability partners.
During the discussion, the focus was on clarifying and defining the Department of Fisheries’ role in supporting the FIP initiatives. Topics included facilitating regulatory compliance, providing technical guidance, and ensuring coordination among stakeholders to achieve measurable improvements in the small pelagic purse seine fishery. Dr. Nicola Clark highlighted the importance of structured governmental involvement in achieving globally recognized sustainability standards.
The meeting reinforced a shared commitment to responsible fishery management and long-term sustainability in Karnataka.
