The conference unfolded over three days, each focused on key themes essential to the industry’s growth and sustainability:
- Day 1: Discussions centered on the outlook for feed ingredients, emphasizing the trends shaping future demands and resource utilization.
- Day 2: This day focused on the supply side dynamics, exploring the global marine ingredient supply and regional updates from West Africa, Europe, India, Chile, and Peru. Presentations analyzed trends affecting these regions and highlighted the challenges and opportunities within the supply chain.
- Day 3: The conference wrapped up by addressing demand-side challenges and opportunities, considering both animal farming applications and the implications for human health.

FIP Team Engagement: Certification and Fisheries Management
The Yashaswi Small Pelagic Purse Seine FIP team participated in two pivotal side events:
- “Certification – More Than Market Access,” organized by MarinTrust. This session illustrated how certification not only opens markets but also enhances reputations, mitigates risks, and promotes responsibly sourced marine ingredients. Insights were provided by representatives from the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI), BioMar Group, Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability, and FoodCorp Chile S.A.
- “How Can Fisheries Management and Viable Value Chains Contribute to Improved Food Security?” This event, organized by the Global Roundtable on Marine Ingredients, examined the role of sound fisheries management in promoting food security. Presentations covered the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP), Fisheries Transparency Initiative (FiTI), and the Global Roundtable on Marine Ingredients. Additional insights came from industry players like Cargill Aqua Nutrition and Finance Earth, who discussed collaborative efforts to improve fishery management in Mauritania. SFP’s Tool Kit was also introduced, offering practical guidance for effective fisheries management.
These sessions equipped the Yashaswi team with valuable knowledge and tools to support their ongoing FIP implementation, highlighting the importance of certification, transparency, and effective fisheries management.
